“When it rains it pours” is increasingly becoming reality in Dutch summers. A country that has more words and expressions for rain than Eskimos have for the colour white, has been confronted with very wet summers in the last decades. Most experts have put this down to the effects of global warming. Extreme downpours as shown in the picture above are no longer exceptional, especially in July and August, causing severe flooding throughout the country. The part of Zeverijn Park/Wezellaan you are looking at is the highest most part of the street, so no flooding occurs here. However, the much lower part of the park which is right in front of you across the street (you can see the shimmer of a path), can fill up with up to 20 cm of water after a severe cloud burst.
